Among the Wildflowers

Everyone has a favorite season, usually falling under the categories of spring, summer, fall and winter, however during the hours of my life spent outdoors I have observed that there are also many seasons in between.
This painting captures one such season that takes place towards the end of August and one which fills my heart joy. For me it is the season of wildflowers, small and humble in themselves but together singing forth a melody of wild and exuberant joy uncaring of the hot, stifling heat of late summer.Â
These beautiful flowers were, however, never made to be cut and captured in the hope of enjoying their song in the comfort of a air-conditioned dwelling. Once they have been confined and isolated their glory and brilliance is seemingly striped away to reveal timid petals sparingly strewn about the wilting greenery. This revelation has often frustrated me as an enthusiastic flower picker, but because of it I have gained an even greater love and appreciation for the way God created these small flowers to be, a mystery of humble appearance and yet beauty beyond description!
